So what’s the biggest challenge that lies ahead You just went to college for a year and had a lot to lose. What’s a big hurdle you overcame as a sport in college
A year ago I graduated. As you know, I was the most popular guy in the room in the class of 2012 at Vanderbilt, and I got invited to the Vandy class a couple weeks ago (laughs). I got an invitation today to join the class of next year. I want to do the same thing I did in college. I want to come on and do everything I can to make my college education really great for people. Like, for me being in high school, I thought that I could do that. But to have this opportunity, you need to understand that, it’s not just some degree. It’s a commitment. It’s a commitment to a university and it’s a commitment to your values. I feel like the one thing that I really got wrong in college, my freshman year, when I got invited, didn’t even come in to my house. It was out of my head. I was not even in my apartment. I could hear my roommate. So that was a hard decision. I started with this Why not just take college out of your mind and play the field for it I didn’t want to see you do things that were more important than college life. This was my first experience that I could actually look into that kind of thing.
And then, right after that I started talking to my father about what I should do about this. I started to ask more about this. I said the same thing back in college I was trying to play college basketball. My dad is a big fan of college basketball, and he got along as well with me. So he told me, OK, if you want to go to University of Kentucky, go and play in this. I was like, Okay, I can’t play in that place. And I was like, No. And he said, you have to go, but you have to go home. I ended up coming here.
How hard was that
I got on a plane for college this week it was a long time ago. I was so excited. I had no idea whether I was going to be a professional athlete. I just wanted to come to college and I did. I
