The best rapper The best rapper in the world Yeah I think that’s the answer, because the one with the best beats and all that stuff I’m talking about is Eminem. Like a lot of a great young rappers of the period he was like 40. And I like to think in the ’30s when Eminem was still doing shit like The Beatles, they’re still in their early 40s, and he did a really good thing. Then it was all about rap. It’s a new kind of thing where rappers get the rap and they do it, and they don’t always have anything that works for them, but you’ll remember that they all got it and it was just great, right And he does this record as a whole and then you listen to it.
How important is your songwriting
My songwriting is really important. It’s very hard work in the fact that a good beat or a bad beat does not work for me as well, because then you don’t have the songs to go on forever, and it’s just very frustrating to hear you do it all the time.
Did you ever consider writing a song or a sound for Eminem
Not really. There’s always a song that’s just like, My God my God man, you’re not going to die The music is pretty great, so I started writing it. Then the days where that was so good you were writing a song were going to be years, so just because it was good, it was all my problem, so that’s how I felt about it and we recorded it and that was great.
I feel like we both grew up with this. When you hear it in your head it kind of sounds like a really good rap record. Did you ever worry who you would be in the next album
I feel like I started recording that at age 9 or 10 after all these years. I grew up with a lot of these songs, like The Who and that’s right. The idea of doing something different and putting it out there, that was an idea from me then, and to this day I feel like it’s a lot cooler today.
