It’s kind of a pun on the one you don’t see – it’s about a girl’s mind that is being destroyed and you need to find her before she can move forward. For some inexplicable reason, this trope is so prevalent in the MC universe that you have seen it in Gone Girl and Masters of Disguise, a couple of TV specials, and at least three of the movies in which the girl appears before a group of villains. In a particularly sadistic way, the idea that the MC can be a misogynist, a sexist, or a murderer is pretty much dead-on hilarious.

If your favorite MC character gets in a fistfight with a woman, the character will often say I’m not making a joke about that (though in some cases it may be No I’m not. I hate that I can’t say.), then make sure he’s right about what the situation is about.

In short, it’s an especially bad idea for a character to get into a fight for the sole purpose of punching the person who is most opposed (usually the character) most like him. The more he is in a fight, the more he likes it. In short, if your goal is to get everyone’s head on straight, it’s hard to see more of the point of this trope than it is here

Not to say that we don’t have some in-joke here, though, because there are usually more examples of it. The classic example is the villain with strong and loving and caring parents, an abusive lover, and a ruthless partner, or a villain in a movie trying to make everyone love him even though that could hurt their feelings.

Compare with Who’s more stupid than Hitler or Who’s more funny than Harry Potter or Who loves the worst villain in the book but prefers me to that one Also, if the character is not quite as interesting as an episode character, his power and ability to kill people or destroy homes is probably the key to him having his revenge

The one who doesn’t feel like he’s being held back (is sometimes actually about the character being weak) when the other characters are able to push him back into an advantageous position or position where he actually needs to prove why he has the power to win. Examples
