LONDON (Reuters Health) - Researchers say the first evidence that obesity is linked to high blood pressure has been found in mice.

Researchers said the team used mouse studies to develop a model that says obesity is caused primarily by fat cells - tiny molecules that bind to fats that cause weight gain.

Scientists used the mouse studies to study the blood pressure of obese mice. This meant only the lower blood pressure was associated with obesity, they said.

It’s a very important finding that points to the importance of being a long-term smoker of saturated fat and other form of fat in our blood, said Dr David Pinto, director of the Centre for Public Health Microbiome at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr Pinto and his colleagues published their findings in the journal Current Biology on Monday.

Previous studies had shown that obesity may lead to lower blood pressure, which is caused by the accumulation of inflammation and is accompanied by changes in body fat and cholesterol.

These changes in LDL cholesterol may play a role in lowering body fat, where cholesterol levels are elevated by diabetes.

But there has been little progress showing that mice with obesity are more likely to develop hypertension, which is another major cause of weight gain.

When you look at how the mouse is eating it, we’re seeing just a lot of fat cells in the lower lip and the adipose tissue, and they are not acting on them, so it makes it worse, Dr Pinto said.

But if we looked at the blood sample for mice, we could detect no differences between how the weight went up or down. Then, that’s what we can say because there are so many lipid profiles in the blood, some of them quite small.
