(CBS) An investigation into the shooting death of a Los Angeles-area teacher who was injured in a robbery in 2010 is likely to lead to charges.
A federal grand jury in California has charged Thomas Chimper Jackson, 54, as a felon in possession of a firearm, attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that Jackson was arrested in August, 2008, when a second-degree armed robbery led to a shooting. The investigation led to a search of the classroom at Los Angeles Unified School District’s Stake Elementary School at 4047 SW 12th Street, but Jackson was never found.
Jackson has been transferred to the Clark County Jail on a 1.5 million bond. The county charges Jackson with first-degree first-degree attempted murder and felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police have now confirmed the arrest and will now seek to charge Jackson with second-degree attempted murder and felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Both could face life in prison.
The case has left the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Washington questioning why there was no charge for those involved.

Aiden received his bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology in the University of California, Berkeley. He then received his law degree from Yale Law School, specializing in criminal justice and civil rights law, including the National Crime Victimization Survey.
An American, an Iranian, and a Briton were arrested while visiting Canada recently and charged with conspiracy to rob a Canadian bank. The Canadians, whose name has not been revealed due to privacy laws, were from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Canadian Embassy in Cairo told local reporters on Monday that the arrests were made during the visit of the visiting Canadians to the United States.
