A Texas congressman is now calling for an investigation into whether federal contractors are colluding with Russia to help Trump’s campaign.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, proposed legislation Wednesday that would require companies that pay for the work of state and local agencies to disclose all foreign contracts they receive and, in some cases, their cost of the work if the contracts are awarded.

The federal contractors have an obligation to report what they’ve hired and paid in Russia to any state and local agencies that may benefit from it, Chaffetz said during Wednesday’s Oversight conference.

The measure, which would also make it a crime for a contractor to share his job, would also give federal contractors the right to investigate contractors doing the work on behalf of the federal government or private contractors to help the Trump campaign.

The Texas congressman proposed that the federal government disclose non-performance contracts, ones that aren’t related to his duties as a congressman. The proposal also would require state and local agencies, and contractors themselves, to disclose whether they work for any federal government entity.

There is no doubt in my mind that there must be some sort of special treatment that we are dealing with today because of the Russians, that they’re engaged in bribery, and, by the way, I certainly know many other people, Chaffetz said.
