The Mustang’s front wing is narrower with the longer front end designed to help it get upwind faster. The rear end is much wider so you can sit a bit farther and have the car roll into your side at speed and not worry about your hand speed. In fact, the rear wing is meant to help it stay back at the base of the car.
We have done two prototypes in the past. The two we did with the convertible and this two-seat convertible we just sold last year, said Michael Kress, who specializes in designing and working on Mustang cars. There are really no issues with a convertible, I’m not 100 percent sure that will work at all, obviously. There aren’t any issues with the back wing being wide over the front or having too much to it. That’s a nice little thing to show off to people.
The Mustang will cost about 10,000 to set up with its rear wing, but the company won’t be revealing what the front end is, Kress explained.
You could actually use this as a kind of ‘cannon’ on a convertible and then you could do a standard Mustang with the front wing on in the front, Kress said. We are just going to put a standard and if that works, they will put it into a Mustang and that is an appropriate front end. But if you want to go into other parts that are more limited, we haven’t seen it work with anything.
For now, some dealers have begun selling their limited-edition cars that you can see below. And Kress said there are plenty they can buy. In short, it’s been an ongoing project, though it’s been interesting to see how things have turned out.
